South America Cruise on the Celebrity Infinity

2/27/11 to 3/13/11

Punta Arenas was one of three tours we had booked with Patagonia Shore Excursions www.patagoniashorex.com. When trying to set up tours in the South American ports, I had been frustrated by some tour operators being very slow to respond to emails or not responding at all. Jamie, the owner of Patagonia Shore Excursions, had responded very quickly to all of my emails, even while he was stuck in Europe by the Iceland volcano ash. I was able to Skype with him before we booked, which was a great way to get to know a tour operator.

Jaime,Greetings to you and Ercilia. ,It has taken me a while, but I wanted to get back to you with photographs a description of our day with you, and a testimonial.

Here is the description of the day written for Trip Advisor https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g294298 (with more reports on Fodor's and Cruise Critics).

After breakfast, we headed out for our last port day. The weather forecast for today was 71F and Sunny, and what a day we had! We started off with some cloud cover, but by the time we got to Lake Llanquihue, the sun was shining and the gorgeous vista across the lake to the Osorno Volcano was visible. Our Cruise Critic Roll Call group of nine had been met at the pier by Jaime Liebrecht and his driver, Ercilia with a new and comfortable van. En route to Osorno, we made a stop at a little farm, where we walked among some emus and llamas and took lots of pictures as they posed for us. We drove first to the Volcano, bypassing the large tour buses headed for the Petrohue Falls. Once we reached the ski lift, the seven people in our group who were going to Zip Line down the Volcano face headed up on the lift, while the two of us who chose to stay below, relaxed on the terrace and enjoyed the fabulous views in every direction. In addition to Osorno, there are two other volcanoes visible in the area and the lake, and the snow-capped volcanoes and the lush landscape of the valley below make for a truly gorgeous sight.

After about an hour, we climbed up to the last platform to photograph the zip liners as they cruised in. They all had a great time, including Jaime. Next we drove to the Petrohue Falls, which is another fabulous site. You walk out to where the waters from the Volcano surge over some rocks and then continue on with rapids in several directions. On a sunny day like ours, the blue water against the forested sides of the bottom of the volcano is beautiful and we took many photographs.

Then it was on to Puerto Varas for lunch. Since we were all very hungry by this time, this was much anticipated and we were all pleased with Jaime's pick, a little restaurant called El Patio de Mi Casa. We ordered off the menu with Jaime providing translations and ate Salmon a la Plancha (served with a sauce spaetzle, Tortellini Stuffed with Chicken for our son (very good pasta drenched in a delicious cheese sauce), and a Crab Au Gratin dish (Pastel de Jaiba), which was very delicious. For the three of us, with one Crab dish, one Salmon dish, the Tortellini, a beer, Mineral Water, two glasses of White Wine (also terrific), and a Pisco Sour (our son's first, but definitely not his last!) the total was US $43.

We took a few minutes to shop in Puerto Varas before heading back to the ship. Puerto Varas is a charming town with German architecture, spectacular views of the lake and the volcano, and many lovely shops. Although we didn't venture in to check it out, there is also a casino. Our port day had been fabulous and when I look at the pictures taken amidst such gorgeous scenery on such a terrific day, I have no hesitation in saying it was the best day of many excellent days on this cruise.

I am happy to recommend Jaime. He is very knowledgeable, speaks fluent English (and other languages as well) and is a great guy. We all enjoyed our day with him very much.

Hello Jaime,
We would like to thank you again for the wonderful time we spent in Peurto Montt with you. We enjoyed the snow, the salmon, and the beautiful scenery. The photos we took can not give justice to the beauty of your country! We had a great time in Vina del Mar and experienced an earth tremor! In The Atacama we saw the flowers that bloom only every 10 years or when it rains. It was breathtaking! Thanks again for your friendliness, information, and the fun we had on the tour with you!
Regards,

We took 2 excursions with you and it was very good. Nayaret in Puerto Montt was fantastic: her french is excellent and she is so enthusiastic about her country, she knows lots of things and we learned so much about the region and the country. She took us in a little restaurant and it was excellent. If I comme again I want her as a guide definitely.

Port of calls

Puerto Montt was one of the best tours we experienced. We chose to book with PatagoniaShorex, and Jaime Liebrecht really delivered! We selected the Osorno Volcano tour, and there were eight of us in a van for eight hours. We loved the ride to the volcano, with stops at a beautiful volcanic park, a visit with llamas, and, finally the climb up the volcano. The top was obscured by cloud when we arrived, and it was quite chilly. We saw the ski lifts, but chose not to ride them because of the weather. On our way back we visited the town of Frutillar, a German town that is on a lake. Here we were lucky enough to see Mount Osorno in all its beauty, and we took some beautiful photos.

Back in Puerto Montt we said goodbye to our guide, Mattias, who proudly showed off his Canadian flag on his backpack and we bought some really great gifts in the market that runs alongside the dock area.

April 2009,We employed Jamie to a full day tour from Puerto Montt to Osorno Volcano, Petrohue Falls and surrounding area sights. He was prompt, courteous, well-informed and very professional in accompanying us on all phases of our tour, always making us comfortable. Without question, the finest service we have ever received after more than 40 cruises all over the world.

Puerto Montt - We did the Mount Osorno Volcano Adventure with Jamie Liebrecht of Patagonia Shore Excursion. This included taking a chair lift up the volcano that had some of the most breath-taking views we experienced on the trip. Once up the mountaind we went zip-lining. Then we went to Petrohue Falls and ended up in the town of Puerto Varas for a wonderful lunch before returning to the ship. I HIGHLY recommend Jaime and Patagonia Shore Ex for this location. We took a few minutes to shop in Puerto Varas before heading back to the ship, where the line for tenders was extremely long and slow. Hot and tired, we were happy to get back on board, but too exhausted and too late to fix up for dinner. We just "went as we were" and still full from lunch, had a smaller than usual dinner. We ordered appetizers, soup, and dessert and skipped the entrees. I ate Curried Apple Soup, Salad Nicoise, and marvelous Flourless Chocolate Lava Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream. They had a Mixed Grill on the Menu which looked good and an assortment of Seafood including a Lobster Tail with Fettucine, but there was no room for us to eat all that food.

Your cheerfulness and willingness to show us everything possible in a short time made this a truly memorable experience. After spending only a couple of hours with you we felt like we know you for years. And a dinner you took us too!!! Oh my God! It was the best meal we had during a month of traveling.

We feel blessed to get to know you. We still talk about the day we spent with you and smile every time we remember you.

We used your guides in three ports on our trip to Patagonia. They were knowledgeable guides and each guide and their driver truly enhanced our visit to Chile. They were all on time, very professional and went out of their way to insure that we enjoyed our time in the various port cities. Also, the response time of the office personnel to any and all of my requests in planning our excursions was first rate.

I can only give Jaime and his wonderful folks the highest of recommendations. He does an outstanding job in responding quickly to e-mails, providing useful tour information and pricing tours fairly. We did a private tour using Patagonia Shorex (Jaime)who provided a driver/guide for touring the Puerto Montt Chilean Lake District on a recent cruise ship port call.

Jaime met us at the dock, provided a knowledgeable, English-speaking guide for the day and met a again at the end of the tour to make sure everything went well. Needless to say, I found this to be an example of the outstanding service and professionalism that Jaime provides. Whenever I'm in the Patagonia area again I will surely be contacting Patagonia Shorex for tours.

The reasons we selected your company are as follow; Cruise Critic web site, Your web site lay out, more interesting/informative way to get from Santiago airport to valpo cruise port area, and your quick E-mail response to all my questions. Guide and driver were prompt and waiting for us at the airport. She was very informative and enthusiastic about her County and city. She had suggestions on what to see, but left the decision up to us. She made us feel like a member of her family. This was important, for she was the first Chilean persons we met. Ending tour at a hard to find small B&B. in Vina del mar. George and Cheri

From the first inquiry Jamie was very quick to respond. The quick response continued as we worked through the details of private tours in Punta Arenas, Puerto Montt, Valpariso, and Santiago. Each stop went according to plan. Guides were prompt, friendly, flexible, and knowledgeable. Each tour day went as planned and as a bonus we learned a lot about the country and culture. I highly recommend Jamie (Patagonia Shorex)and it was great working with one person for all four tours in Chile. Thank you Jamie and your network of professional guides and drivers.

My husband and I had a wonderful day visiting Ancud on Chiloe Island with Claudio and Ingrid, the place where my grandfather was born over 100 years ago, and where his father died. We learnt a lot from them both about life back then and I will always hold memories of my visit. The visit to the Museum of Churches was excellent and the local market was enjoyable. A very memorable day. The service from Jaime was excellent in arranging this trip.

Our two tours with your company were both excellent. In Punta Arenas the weather unfortunately meant that we were not able to take the kayaks into the Magellan Strait but we had a wonderful time in the small river parallel to the coast. In Puerto Montt our trip to the falls and Puerto Varas was most enjoyable and the lunch was outstanding at the small restaurant used by your company. We appreciated the knowledge of our guides, the careful driving of the drivers and the almost new vehicles used for both tours. Your organization with a prepared invoice and use of PayPal for secure deposits was first class. Thank you.

Yesterday may have been our best day in Chile. What I want to thank you for the most is helping to find our guide Viviana. She was a very good fit for our group. She was prompt, knowledgeable, flexible, and friendly. Having my daughter speak Spanish was also very helpful. More than the other guides that I tried to communicate with, you understood that we did not want to go on a pre-planned tour but wanted to learn about what was possible and make decisions along the way. Viviana was very understanding of this and worked hard to provide us the experiences we were seeking. We were surprised to discover that the hotel we were staying at had no information to provide for tourists nor could anyone in Vina Del Mar help us to find a center with tourist information. Viviana was able to bring us lots of helpful information. So overall, we think that our days with Viviana were really nice and very much worth it for us. We would be happy to recommend this to any new tourist coming to Chile.

Best Regards,

Both our excursions with PatagoniaShorex were superb! They were the best port days we had.

Our guide in Puerto Montt, Claudio, was very personable and had a good plan in mind that balanced our desire to see Orsono Volcano with some threatening weather. My daughters put his adventure skills to the test with a strenuous hike up the ski hill in fierce winds and appreciated his agreeable attitude. He wasn't daunted by the weather and we traipsed through Petrohue Falls in the rain before enjoying a fantastic lunch in Puerto Varas.

We discovered on our cruise that being with fun, friendly and knowledgeable guides made all the difference! The day with Claudio was top notch.

In Punta Arenas we were fortunate to meet Danae. She was a good adventurer as well and joined us for kayaking on the Strait of Magellan. She and the folks running the kayaking concession were really fun and went out of their way to make sure we had a good time. Afterwards we had a very nice meal and she took us to the main square. We met really nice people through Danae that made this day a highlight of our cruise. You couldn't do better than to have her for a guide.

Jaime made all the arrangement for these 2 tours. He and I corresponded by email and Skype. He got back to me immediately with answers to all my questions. The service was excellent!

Sorry did not get to you before but I am still not fully settled yet after 25 days holiday!!

I want to thank you and congratulate you on your services in Chile. Puerto Montt was great and you were very good and informative. Lunch at Puerto Varas was fantastic. Whole trip was good.

I must mention that Loreto was really good. She went out of her way to help us and make us happy in Santiago. It was a bit difficult, since some of us were very scared because of the tremors there were, but all in all, we enjoyed Santiago and I must say we were very lucky to fly out on our scheduled flights.

Please say a big thank you to Loreto, especially on the last day to the airport. I shall definitely recommend you to anyone wanting to visit Chile, and we have to come again in the future to see Punta Arenas!

Unfortunately on our recent cruise to South America we were not able to get off in the Falkland Islands due to rough weather, therefore the visit to Magdelena Island was the highlight of our cruise. We were initially put off by the length of time it was going to take to get there - it was considerably less time than anticipated and we absolutely loved seeing all the penguins. A must for nature lovers. The side trip to Marta (??) Island was a nice suprise - we loved seeing all the sea lions. I highly recommend this trip for all travelors in this area. For cruisers - it was half the price of the ship excursion and less time - what a bargain.

We were very very happy with the service we received from you. The vans were very clean and comfortable. The different guides were very friendly and knowledgeable, all of them. We have been taking ship excursions on busses and we can only say that the experience is very different. We definitely prefer the private services since we don't have to wait for others during the tours, we loved the small dining places we were taken to and we liked the flexibility of changing the itinerary at any time.

Good Morning Jaime, We were more than happy to give a good review of our day with you in Puerto Montt area to the Newlands. We hope they book with you and experience a great day as we did. Our photos of that day are some of the best on our trip. Feel free to give our names to anyone for recommendation. We offered to meet with them or talk on phone, etc. but guess our glowing review of you via email was enough!! Glad to be of any assistance Best Wishes, Lenore and Evan Lancaster PS: None of my friends believe that you and I saw puffs of smoke from that volcano! I know we did.

Can you believe that I was sick as a dog! Made myself even more sicker being so upset because I missed the wonderful day. Everyone came back saying that they had enjoyed a fabulous day with Camille. They loved the tour and Camilles beautiful smile - they loved her! Thank you for helping us with our tour arrangements. We are going to give your name to a travel agent friend so that she can contact you for her future cruise groups. Sincerely, Vicki

Jaime was everything we could hope for as a private guide. We visited every sight we had asked and more. The non-touristy lunch site was great and the biggest bonus of all were the smoke puffs from a volcano!. We enjoyed our day with you. The pictures of the Osorno volcano are beautiful. We would be happy to provide you with references. The rest of our trip was wonderful. We were able to go to the Falkland Islands to see many penguins and also enjoyed Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro. Thank you again for a wonderful day

Our day in Puerto Montt was fabulous! We got a real taste of life in Chile and all it has to offer. Our desire to see natural wonders was truly satisfied as well as our children's need to be entertained. Jaime did a wonderful job timing our sights so that we felt like exclusive visitors, not part of the crowd. Great job!

I want you to know I just posted comments on two internet boards: "We sailed on the Amsterdam itinerary last month and booked all our shore excursions with Jamie Liebrecht. I cannot say enough good things about this guide. Their excursions pretty much parallel cruise lines excursions, except they enhance them, are small groups with a very personalized experience, and all at a price far below cruise line prices. We dealt with Jamie and I have to say he is the most organized, efficient, customer-oriented professional I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Everyone on our cruise who joined us in our tour felt as just as we do. Do yourself a big favor and check their web site at www.Patagoniashorex to see what they are about and try them on your next cruise . I guarantee you will be very satisfied. If you are interested you can email direct to jaimeliebrecht@gmail.com I know it sounds like I must work for him or am getting a commission or something, but I am just extremely happy with this guide and want all of you to know about them." Jamie, I hope you continue to see all the business you deserve. Thanks again Tom

We used a private tour with Jamie and were extremely happy with him... We used jaimeliebrecht@gmail.com (his name is Jamie)...great men to deal with and very prompt in responding. Also is very sweet and professional guide and he have a minivan for 06 passenger with air conditioned and speak fluently English. Everything was amazing in Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas, the volcano and falls. The weather has been great, sunny, warm, light breeze. Perfect for photos of the countryside and volcanoes! This guide is the same that you recommend for the website try it. Karen
