Description:
After the Petrohue Falls stop we continue along the petrohue river to the Todos los Santos lake where and your host will walk you around an amazing untouched forest giving you the chance for an unforgettable experience to all admirers of nature and wildlife.
Our journey will start as we leave our Petrohue headquarters heading towards the volcano Osorno and from there we will sail the Todos los Santos lake , until we arrive at a sandy plain, a product of landslides off the sides of the volcano.
On the first part of our trail we will cross wide lava fields, after which the vegetation becomes thicker, until we find ourselves hiking through native Valdivian rain forest. The flora will change significantly with every meter we advance. During the whole hike we will be able to enjoy fabulous panoramic views of Lake Todos los Santos and the surrounding volcanoes.
Once we have crossed this plain we will take the old road that used to link Petrohue with the cities Puerto Octay and Osorno. Where the road bends towards “Paso Desolación” we will continue straight ahead on a little path that will lead through forests of coigues (Nothofagus dombeyi), beautiful arrayan (Luma apiculata) trees and a wide variety of ferns and mosses that cover the ground.
Once we have come through this ancient forest we will come upon Playa Larga, another black volcanic sand beach, a shore we will walk until we finally arrive back at Petrohue for a nice snack with typical chilean wine and Empanadas.
During the excursion nature lovers, convinced of the need to preserve it, will live the magical experience of practicing the most exciting direct observation of species like Yellow-bridled Finch, Chucao Tapaculo, Patagonian Sierra-Finch, White-browed Ground-Tyrant, Rufous-webbed Miner, Rufous-tailed Hawks and others more than 450 bird.
The variety and vivacity of these antique inhabitants in the different landscapes where the Atmosphere will be passing through, make of the Chilean Patagonia a real paradise to explore.
For example, we introduce you the Chucao, a small but powerful little bird that predicts the future. According to a timeless legend, whoever would cross the Patagonian forest and would here it sing his name on his right, would probably have good luck, but if the singing would come from his left, then it would be better to be careful. Fortunately, it is just a legend! The Chucao, that sings with extraordinary strength, is quite solitary and only couples for reproduction.
After that we will continue the program with the visit to Puerto Varas city as described in the Petrohue excursion.
